Neue Freie Presse between 1901 and 1910

The Reception of Events in the Austrian and International Art World in the Austrian Newspaper Neue Freie Presse between 1901 and 1910

With its research project, the Belvedere aims to collect all of the art historically relevant contents published in the Austrian newspaper Neue Freie Presse during the time period 1901–1910 – one of the most important decades for the Austrian history of art, culture, and ideas – and make them accessible to both scholars and the general public in an adequate fashion.
During the period covered by the project, print media were the most important vehicles of information with regard to the reception of the visual arts. Over the period in question, the Neue Freie Presse, in those days the leading newspaper of the Habsburg monarchy, appeared twice a week.
A profound search of what was then the most influential newspaper represents an urgent desideratrum in Austrian art historical research and will considerably improve the prerequisites for scholars for the period of time in question.
Following the completion of the research project, the findings delivered will be made accessible via a separate user interface on the Belvedere website in a clearly structured and fully searchable form.

This research project is funded by the Jubiläumsfonds der Österreichischen Nationalbank.
